Sterling Heights police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who left a man in the middle of the road on Labor Day afternoon.

Matt Konway talked to us from his hospital bed at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

He tells us he was driving his motorcycle in the left lane of Ryan Road near 14 Mile on Monday when an SUV in the right lane decided to make an illegal U-turn across several lanes of traffic.

The 29-year-old slammed into the side of the car, going 45 mph.

At first, the driver got out of the car. Konway says he remembers the man saying, "get up."

Next thing he knew, the guy took off.

He's been in the hospital for four days, with a shattered scapula, broken wrist, and torn tendons in his left leg.

Police say they are looking for black GMC Terrain with driver side damage.
