Residents in a Clinton Township neighborhood tell 7 Action News a group home is causing some serious concerns.
"They're scared to play in their own backyards because of it and that's a problem,” said Samantha Presta, who has lived in the neighborhood near James St. & Moravian Dr. in Clinton Township for her entire life.
The James Street Group Home has been in the neighborhood since 2004. It’s for mentally ill and physically handicapped adults.
Presta said it’s only been recently the residents started acting strangely.
"There's never been any problems, we never even noticed it. Most of the neighbors didn't even know it was here until recently,” said Presta.
She said she doesn’t know what changed, but now residents are often wandering the neighborhood.
"We noticed a lot of drunk people coming and falling in our ditches. Actually, one neighbor had a man come to the fence and watch the children play,” said Presta
7 Action News reached out to the operator of the group home multiple times on Tuesday, but she has not yet responded.
Presta has contacted her too.
"She thinks that her residents deserve to be here, which I think they should too, but under certain circumstances and under certain rules,” said Presta.
She is determined to fix the problem and she is now working to gather signatures for a petition.
"It needs to change, something does, before somebody gets hurt or worse,” said Presta.
The home has not had violations in the past. The licensing office told 7 Action News it would investigate after a formal complaint is made.
