Officials trying to stop graffiti taggers at metro Detroit park

Posted

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Department says they’re investigating multiple vandal reports at the Waldenburg Park in Macomb Township.

Gina Muszynski with the Parks and Recreation Department says the problem started in April. Crews tried cleaning the mess up, and say vandals have continued to come back.

Cameras were put in but later tagged.

The department says the wording doesn't make sense, but they can tell it is the same persons writing.

Muszynski says not having any power at the park has made it a little difficult to add lighting.

"That little graffiti goop that you can go out and buy from a store isn't that. Now we have to get it from a larger corporation and you're talking for a 5 gallon bucket upwards of a couple hundred dollars," Muszynski says.

The park recently had renovations done to it costing nearly $100,000.

"With social media people are looking, people are watching, people are upset that this is going on in their community,” she says.

The department says they’re looking into solar technology at the park to help catch those responsible.

That would require more funding.
