A Monroe County sheriff's deputy knew something wasn't right when he saw a man pushing a large generator down Laplaisance Road early on Halloween morning.
It was about 2 a.m. and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office says Sergeant Jeff Ellington was on patrol.
The suspicious man with the generator also had a large trash bag full of cordless power tools.
Sgt. Ellington determined there had just been a home invasion on the 3900 block of N. Otter Creek Road that wasn't even reported yet.
The homeowners were asleep while they were being ripped off. The investigation revealed their vehicles had also been broken into.
The 36-year-old La Salle man with the generator was taken into custody. He's locked up at the Monroe County jail facing a list of charges that includes first degree home invasion, larceny from a motor vehicle and drug possession.
His name is being withheld pending arraignment.
