A Monroe County man has been arrested for involuntary manslaughter in the death of his wife, according to Michigan State Police Lt. Tony Cuevas.
Police say his wife died because her husband, who was the caretaker, failed to provide proper care for her for the last five years.
According to police, the suspect brought his wife to the hospital on June 6, 2015, because she was unconscious.
When the arrived, emergency room workers saw she had skin damage from extreme neglect and had a "very large abscess in her abdomen that was filled with live maggots."
The woman eventually died due to complications of the abscess.
The Monroe County Medical Examiner ruled her death as a homicide due to "gross neglect".
Police arrested the 67-year-old suspect at a friend's home in Carlton Mobile Home Park. He is expected to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
