(WXYZ) — The story of Bobby Reyes gained nationwide attention and support from around the globe.
"I asked God how am I supposed to live without him," says Sarah Jones, mother of Bobby Reyes.
Reyes' mother was determined to keep her son on life support after a severe asthma attack.
The 14-year-old was declared brain dead after two apnea tests by doctors at the University of Michigan's CS Mott Children's Hospital.
His parents were forced to leave his bedside to attend court to keep Reyes on a ventilator. However, the crusade in court ended on October 15, when Reyes was taken off life support and died.
"We were so close to getting him transferred," Jones said. "To the last second we fought."
Jones has turned her anguish into action. She's working with State Representative Joe Bellino on a bill called "Bobby's Law".
"First thing that went through my mind is how could this happen to a family in America, let alone in Monroe County," Bellino said.
The bill is in the drafting phase and Bellino said it would be on the House floor in January.
"It basically says in order to pull the plug on a child that's injured like [Bobby] was you have to have the parent's consent," Bellino explained.
