MONROE COUNTY (WXYZ) — Some drivers are criticizing a new contractor MDOT hired to clear state roads in Monroe County.
They say the found a stark difference between the conditions on state roads in the county, when compared with those in other counties, following Monday's snow storm.
However, other drivers say they didn't see any difference.
Chairman of the Monroe County Board of Commissioners Henry Lievens says he heard complaints from enough drivers to take action. He has sent letters to state lawmakers asking for accountability.
MDOT hired the private contractor to clear the roads in Monroe County earlier this year. They took over on October 1.
7 Action News reached out to MDOT for comment. MDOT had a meeting Thursday afternoon with the contractor to address issues.
“We understand that better communication and oversight are necessary to ensure we are prepared going forward,” said Aaron Jenkins, University Region MDOT Spokesperson.
7 Action News reached out to Ferrovial, the company based in Spain that has been hired to clear the state roads in Monroe County, for comment. We did not hear back by deadline.
