Most 9-year-olds can't wait to open presents on their birthday.
But for one boy in Oxford, his birthday celebration was all about acts of kindness.
"I looked at my dog and I wondered if she is happy and I thought she was and then I thought maybe I can help all the other dogs be happy like my dog," Dylan Warren said.
That thought sparked a chain of events centered around the word "kindness."
Dylan celebrated his ninth birthday this past weekend, but instead of gifts, he asked his friends to bring leashes, collars and toys for dogs.
He said, "I wanted to help K-9 Rescue and make the dogs all happy."
Dylan's birthday list was a donation wishlist for the K-9 Stray Rescue League.
"I already have enough stuff and maybe the K-9 rescue dogs didn't have stuff."
"I was a little worried because I thought he is going to have this party and he is going to get this stuff, but he is not going to get anything for himself. Is he going to regret it? And when the party was over, he was over the moon excited," said Stephanie Warren, Dylan's mom. "There is something about him. He is an old soul and he just wanted to make the world a better place."
He spent Sunday delivering the dog supplies to the rescue and he got a chance to play with the grateful pups.
"It makes me feel good," he said. "It makes me feel really good."
Dylan also asked his friends to do a random act of kindness and write it down on a note.
"To make people feel good. Then maybe other people will do it and then it will make the world a better place."
Even though his birthday just passed, he is planning to do this again next year.
