Apartment resident still without working heat

Posted

It's a story we first brought you on Friday - complaints of no heat at an apartment complex in Southfield during some of the coldest days so far this season.

The city told us the heat was back on Friday, but residents say that didn't happen.

We were back at the Atrium Apartments in Southfield today, where residents tell us they haven’t had heat, or hot water and now they're being forced to live in hotels.

Paige Batista and her family, including her 8-month-old baby girl and her 8-year-old son, have been staying at a hotel since Friday.

Paige says it's just too cold to live in her Southfield apartment, where the temperature inside was in the 50s today.

We were here on Friday and were asked to leave by management. When contacted the city, they told us the heat was back on.

Today we went back to management office.

After several calls to the city today, they finally got back to us saying they have several calls to the building department and will get back to me.

The Batista family says they want to get out of their lease and into a new apartment.

We are not going away. We are going to continue to contact the city and the property manager and whoever else we need to until the residents have their heat and hot water back on.
