A game that became very popular in Canada is coming to metro Detroit this fall with the opening of Detroit Axe and Event Center.

The 3,000-square-foot venue will be above the new Corner Tavern and Game Room in Ferndale and have 12 lanes where competitors throw hatchets at wooden targets.

There will also be a variety of classic bar games including pinball machines, dartboards, shuffleboard, bumper pool and throwback arcade games.

On top of that, there will be a full bar, food from Corner Tavern downstairs, a donut-making machine and more.

The owners, Brian Siegel and Geoff Kretchmer, also own and operate other businesses like Star Trax Events and Joe Dumars' Fieldhouse.

“Ferndale is the perfect community in which to introduce Detroit Axe as well as our neighborhood restaurant, Corner Tavern and Game Room,” Kretchmer said. “Both concepts are designed for groups and couples looking for a fun night out, or a company-wide activity. And once you try axe throwing, you will be surprised at how addictive and challenging it can be.”

Located on 9 Mile, the axe lanes will be separated by fencing and cost $35-$40 for 2-hour tournaments with walk-ins at $20 an hour.
