The Farmington Hills Police Department is asking for the public's help to find whoever stole a Salvation Army donation kettle.
The theft happened around 4:45 p.m. outside the Walgreens on Grand River, near Eight Mile.
Witnesses say the thief took the entire donation kettle, stand and all. It happened after the bell ringer stepped inside the store for a brief moment.
The stand has been recovered. However, the kettle and an unknown amount of money is still missing.
The suspect is described as a white male, about 6' tall with a thin build. He is believed to be in his 20s.
The suspect was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants.
Police have released a surveillance picture of the suspect carrying the kettle.
Members of the Farmington Hills Police Department's afternoon shift held a collection to replace the money and raised $248. An anonymous donor also contributed $300. The $548 donation has already been presented to the Salvation Army.
Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Farmington Hills Police Department at 248-871-2610.
