"It would be best to turn him or herself in to better explain what happened," said Det. Lt. William Wilson, with the Ferndale Police Department.
Lt. Wilson says the driver plowed into a group of people crossing Woodward at Nine Mile around 2:15 a.m Saturday morning.
"The driver did have a green light, but that doesn't matter in this case, there was a group of people in the road," Wilson says.
Surveillance cameras from nearby businesses captured several angles of the suspect's vehicle, but because of the rain and low light Lt. Wilson says it's difficult to determine the exact make and model of car they're looking for.
"It looks to be a tan or gold colored Buick or Mercury, probably late 1990's model, we're not sure. We are hoping more witnesses come forward," Lt. Wilson says.
Investigators are canvassing nearby businesses for any additional footage that may have captured a better image of the suspect's vehicle.
The victim is currently listed in critical condition and has not regained consciousness, according to police.
