A fire at a senior living center in Farmington Hills sent four residents to the hospital Wednesday evening.
It started in one of the apartments at The Baptist Manor, a complex with multiple buildings for senior living.
The four people were transported to area hospitals in stable condition, according to investigators on the scene.
Farmington Hills firefighters confirm eight units were destroyed in the fire, more could be determined unlivable due to smoke and water damage in the coming days.
The entire large building where the fire started was evacuated after the fire and the power was shut off, firefighters say most residents will be allowed back on Thursday morning.
Residents like Brenda Brady watched the flames and feels very sad for the people who have lost their homes.
"Sympathy that they're going to be dislocated, sympathy that all their lives are in their apartments everything, their pictures, their memories their lives,” said Brady.
Erica Hunt’s 67-year-old mother lived next door to the apartment where the fire started.
"It's scary, she was one of the four people taken to the hospital, both sisters are heading there right now, they sent me here because they're worried about her cat,” said Hunt.
Her mother is doing ok, she has smoke inhalation.
She said the cat hid when firefighters went to get it, and she wasn’t able to find it before leaving to see her mother at the hospital.
Farmington Hills Fire Department officials said they’re still working to determine the cause of the fire.
