As Hazel Park Police try to determine who is behind two social media accounts where the users are soliciting inappropriate photos from children, they are warning parents about the need to monitor their children's social media accounts.

The letter to parents comes after a school resource officer interviewed two students in the fifth grade regarding attempts by one or more people to obtain the inappropriate photos.

A portion of the letter that was emailed to parents Wednesday includes the following:

It was determined that the inappropriate requests originated with the following 2 social media websites, Instagram and Snapchat.

Instagram account under the screen name of (VS PINK MODELING)

Snapchat account under the screen name of (Austin.Melburn)

It has also been determined that the person making these requests was able to access the students “friends list” on these social media sites and may possibly be sending requests to other students within our district.

We are asking parents and students to be vigilant when using social media websites. We are asking parents to speak with their children and monitor their activity to assure that good judgment is being used.

If you discover that your child has been contacted by either of these screen names we ask that you simply block the person from the phone.

We do not recommend that you attempt to contact this person as it is known that sometimes these people have the capability of attaching viruses to your computer or phone if they feel that they have been caught.

Hazel Park Police are investigating the matter.
