High school beatdown caught on tape, students could be expelled and charged

The video is “appalling and disturbing” according to Hazel Park Superintendent Dr. Amy Kruppe and Police Detective Xavier Piper.

It shows several students kicking another student while he’s down.

It happened last Thursday while the students were walking home through a nearby park from Hazel Park High School.

Students and their parents have three levels of due process starting with the Principal, then the Superintendent and finally the school board.  An expulsion would be up to the board and a hearing would be held in closed session.

Detective Piper tells 7 Investigator Jim Kiertzner, “Actual kids involved with the physical fight we’ve identified all but two at this point.”

He also said students and parents are cooperating and he will be taking the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor for charges against several students.

Dr. Kruppe won’t say what action has been taken against students so far, but final action is coming.

“There’s no way shape or form that we should have an environment where 20 children cause a situation with another student or gang up on another student,” she said.

She and Detective Piper would not say what started the fight, but he said “have a very good idea.”
