ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) — The holiday season is a time for joy for so many, but for some families there's added stress because their newborn is in the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

That's why Royal Oak Beaumont decided to offer a holiday photo shoot for babies in the NICU. It was conducted by Bella Baby Photography.

They wanted to help ease the stress and bring smiles to parents like Sarah McDaniel. Her daughter Vera was born 15 weeks early.

She says it's been a stressful time but is so grateful to have these precious pictures taken.

"I love it. I think it's great that we have the opportunity to dress them up and take pictures with them, even though we can't physically leave," she says.

The babies are outfitted with tiny crocheted holiday themed outfits that were purchased online by the hospital.

Mara Sipols is a Clinical Nurse Manager at the NICU. She says the excitement has been contagious.

"There's a ton of steps to soften a long journey, especially if you're born small,” she says.

Speaking of the photo shoot, Sipols says, "It's awesome for the staff. It just made my day too. It's so rewarding."

Royal Oak Beaumont is planning to do the same thing next holiday season.
