A horse in Highland Township jumped into a marsh and it took several first responders to get him out.

The horse, named Jango, lives on Stephanie Dane's farm and jumped into a mud pit Monday morning.

"When he jumped in, he went completely under, and I didn't even know it was that deep in that area," Dane said.

Ken Chapman, fire chief for the Highland Township Fire Department, said they requested help from North Oakland, Oakland County Sheriffs and Star EMS, hoping to get Jango out.

"Once we got in the scene, we quickly realized it was nothing we can do on our own," Chapman said. "If we wouldn't have gone out there to assist, the animal would not have survived."

Jango came out, stood right up and was just fine.

"He acts like nothing happened," Dane said.

Jango is a two-year-old Gypsy Vanner, a bread known to be friendly.

"They are very calm horses, they don't panic," Dane said. "That's why I think she survived. They don't panic, they trust people more."

Chapman said they went the extra mile with the rescue because the citizens of the community are like "our family."

"We want to make sure that we take care of our citizens and our fur babies as much as we can," he said.
