Police look for drunk drivers on New Year's Eve

Posted

Law enforcement agencies all across metro Detroit are patrolling the roads tonight, searching for drivers drunk behind the wheel.

This long extended holiday season can be tragic for some folks.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, from Thanksgiving to New Years of last year, all around the country, 945 people were killed during drunk driving crashes.

Tonight, the Oakland County Sheriff's Department is out, keeping the roads safe.

It's no secret; it's a huge night for parties and drinking. That's why the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department has extra cruisers out and about, looking for anything out of the ordinary.

Tonight, early on, it was everything from a headlight out, to no insurance; also a woman had outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

Last year, throughout the county on NYE, five drivers were arrested for drinking and driving.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, the real busy and dangerous time starts after a midnight, when people are driving home after a night of drinking and partying.

Rest assured, they will be watching.
