Man charged for stealing Salvation Army kettle

Posted

A man has been arrested and charged in connection to the theft of a Salvation Army Donation Kettle outside of a Walgreens in Farmington Hills.

According to police, Eric Joseph Heineman, 29, of Redford, was charged with Possession of Heroin and Larceny under $200.

Police say Heineman stole the red kettle around 4:45 p.m. Friday. A witness said it happened when the bell ringer stepped inside for a moment.

After seeing the story on the news, a tipster located Heineman at a business in Redford Township and called police. He was arrested on Saturday.

It was not known how much money was inside the kettle when it was stolen, but the Farmington Hills Police Department's afternoon shift put together a collection to help replace the stolen money.

In all, they raised $248 and an anonymous donor added another $300 to bring the total to $548. They gave the money to the Salvation Army on Friday evening.
