At a town meeting Wednesday night, people in Rose Township came looking for answers in the July shooting death of Alexandra Brueger.
But state police either didn't have them or just couldn't talk about details of the investigation.
"We'll know probably more about her after this is all done than her parents do," said Lt. Mike Shaw of Michigan State Police.
Brueger was shot to death while jogging in a rural area in July. Shaw said they have looked into 75 tips that have turned up no leads.
An extensive investigation into the usual suspects has so far yielded no clues.
"You look at the family. You look at the boyfriend. You look at any other boyfriend. You look at any past criminals. You look at sex offenders, " said Shaw. "So far nothing."
With so little to go on, police can not rule out a random attack. That fear has changed life in this small community.
"We leave our keys in our cars. We don't lock our doors. The barns are open. We just haven't, we've changed. We've locked down. We're keeping our eyes open and it's kind of scary," said Rose Township resident Tim Claus.
Police are looking for a white or tan colored car that was seen on Fish Lake Road around the time of the shooting.
There is a $7,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
