Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner says an employee of the Goodman Acker law firm who did work for his campaign embezzled approximately $100,000.

The employee, Jennifer Sudan, is now on a leave of absence from the firm as she runs for State Representative for the 39th District of Michigan.

Meisner and Goodman Acker announced the allegations during a news conference Monday afternoon, saying they discovered discrepancies in their filings after Suidan began her leave of absence three weeks ago.

According to a statement released by Goodman Acker, their investigation determined that Suidan had been embezzling from Meisner's campaign for 18 months. They also say Suidan has been terminated and that Oakland County law enforcement has been contacted.

The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office says the allegations are being investigated by the Sheriff's Office. No charges have been filed, and they are not addressing the names of anyone involved.

Meisner says Suidan has been removed from her duties with his campaign.

Both Goodman Acker and Meisner say they are continuing the investigation to further determine what happened to the money.

Suidan has not yet released a comment.

The Michigan House Democrats have issued a statement saying:

The allegations against Jennifer Suidan are serious, and the only appropriate response is for her to suspend her campaign and we expect her to do so immediately. These allegations have no impact or connection to the rest of our candidates and we remain focused on the issues that matter to Michigan families.
