Relatives and coworkers of Walter Heil knew something was wrong when several days had passed without seeing or hearing from the 57-year-old.
So, they called Oakland County Sheriff deputies to check on him.
When investigators arrived at Heil's home on the 300 block of Central Avenue in Pontiac, his 54-year-old wife declined to let them inside the house.
Deputies forced their way in and found Walter Heil's body in the basement. He had been stabbed to death.
The person who would turn out to be the suspect in his murder, his own daughter, was also dead from an apparent drug overdose.
