The superintendent for Farmington Public Schools announced a proposal Tuesday night that would close three schools in the district.
The schools include Harrison High School, Dunckel Middle School and the Highmeadow Common Campus.
Under the proposal, eighth graders who were supposed to go to Harrison for ninth grade in the fall would be reassigned to either Farmington High School or North Farmington High School instead.
Students who are currently enrolled at Harrison would be allowed to continue there and graduate, making the current freshman class the last graduating class at the school building.
The proposal also calls for the expected relocation of Farmington High School to the current Harrison building in the 2017-2018 school year.
The final Harrison graduating class would then complete their senior year in "a school within a school," according to the proposal.
Dunckel Middle school would be repurposed into a K-8 Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics Academy. That transformation would begin in the 2017-2018 school year.
Under the proposal, the Highmeadow Common Campus would close at the end of the 2016-2017 school year. The Highmeadow program would move to the current Dunckel building.
The current Highmeadow campus would be converted to house the district's early childhood education program, according to the proposal.
There will be two community forums on the proposal.
The first is Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m. at Maxfield Education Center, which is located at 32789 W. Ten Mile Rd. in Farmington.
The second forum will be held Saturday, March 5 at 10 a.m. at Dunckel Middle School, which is located at 32800 W. Twelve Mile Rd. in Farmington Hills.
The board is expected to vote on the school closing proposal on Tuesday, March 15th. The board meeting is set for 7 p.m. at Farmington High School located at 32000 Shiawassee St. in Farmington.
