Python still on the loose after going 50 miles from Fraser to Westland

A python snake reportedly slithered about 50 miles from Fraser to Westland earlier this week and is still slipping from its owners grasp.

Walking 50 miles would be exhausting and slithering on your belly, you'd work up an appetite and according to a Facebook post by Westland Community News, this hungry python craved Taco Bell.

The woman claiming to be its owner, Nicole Giacchina, didn't respond to our messages but through Facebook posts says the Ball Python Hybrid escaped her home in Fraser and somehow made it all the way to the Michigan Ave. Taco Bell near Westland where employees captured it and tossed it into the woods of the nearby Lower Rouge River Park.

"I live very close just as soon as you walk out the back door the woods are right there. I'm out there all the time with my dog too so maybe one day I'll see it," says Hannah Williams who lives behind the Taco Bell near the park.

Giacchina says in a Facebook comment she's been searching the Rouge River for 3 days and is offering a $100 reward to anyone who can reunite her with her pet.

"Pythons can be dangerous to humans and to other small animals which is why it's important to call animal control if you see an animal like a python or any other domestic or exotic animal out and about," says Anna Chrisman with Michigan Humane Society.

She says while escaped pythons seem rare, household pets escaping is pretty common. She emphasizes that you should never approach an animal you don't know. Call animal control.
