As Vice President of the U. S. Conference of Mayors, Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Bennett will spend Thursday in south Texas on a humanitarian mission in the Immigration Crisis.

The mayors will tour a Children’s Center near El Paso and discuss the need for reforms that include building a wall and how to deal with adults who bring their kids into the US illegally.

Federal officials have been holding more than 2,000 kids since President Trump enforced a Zero Tolerance Policy.

Up until Wednesday, kids were separated from their parents during an arrest. President Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday afternoon ending the separations.

Eighty-one of those kids were brought to Michigan to be placed into foster homes while the parents go through the legal process of being allowed in or deported.

Mayor Bennett’s trip is being paid for by the Conference of Mayors.

He says the overall immigration crisis needs to be addressed including building the wall to Mexico.

As a Republican, the Mayor supports President Trump but disagreed with the separation of kids of their parents.
