A robed minister will be standing outside in front of St. David's Episcopal Church for several hours on Wednesday, Feb. 10, ready to administer ashes to willing motorists.
St. David's Episcopal Church is located at 16200 W 12 Mile Rd in Southfield. Michigan.
Ashes will be available in the driveway in front of the church from 7-9 a.m., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 4-6 p.m. The hours are scheduled to accommodate the morning rush hour, lunch time, and evening rush hour. The driveway is parallel to Twelve Mile Road.
The tradition of marking an ashen cross on the foreheads of believers on Ash Wednesday is usually performed during a service inside Christian churches at the beginning of the penitential spiritual season of Lent. But this year, St. David's is offering ashes both inside and outside the church.
