Plan for Southfield oil drilling blasted again

Posted

Don't drill in Southfield! That's the message from neighbors who don't want a nearby church to drill for oil.

They're saying -- "not in my backyard!"

Tonight at the Southfield city hall it was standing room only. Residents as well as local and state leaders showed up to express their concerns about a church that wants to drill for oil.

The Word of Faith International Christian Center is on the corner of Nine Mile and Evergreen.

Tonight neighbors told city leaders they're worried about the possibility of harmful effects on air quality and the water supply if the church is allowed to drill.

The mayor of Southfield says he's not opposed to drilling in general but he doesn't want to see it happen in a populated area.

A public hearing on this is scheduled for February 17th. That will be held at the Southfield High School auditorium at 6:00 p.m.
