Plumbing problem floods woman's home

A woman says she had a plumbing issue, so she called the company she thought would be best to take care of it.

Now, she’s out thousands of dollars and has a big mess on her hands.

Constance Slappey says all she wants from plumbing and drain-service company Roto-Rooter is for them to take responsibility for the damage done to her home – but so far, they refuse to do so.

Slappey has been living at her Southfield home for about 15-years. She says nothing like this has ever happened before.

She says she knew she had a plumbing problem last week, so she called Roto-Rooter. They sent an employee to her home Friday morning.

She says he told her someone would have to come back to her house on Monday to fix it. But, less than 24-hours later her home was flooded.

She says she contacted Roto-Rooter immediately after seeing all the water damage, they sent someone else to her house.

“The young man who came out to me on Saturday stated to me and I quote had I come to your home yesterday, you would not have this issue today,” she says.

Still, she says Roto-Rooter is not willing to give her any of the money she had to pay another company to take care of the damage that could have been avoided.

We called Roto-Rooter to see if they were willing to make things right. They gave us the runaround. So, we paid them a visit. First, we were told corporate is handling it.

Then after waiting awhile, a manager came out.

When we insisted they should take responsibility for what happened to Constance's basement, this is what we got.

“We’re done. Goodbye, you got my interview, there you go.”

We reached out Roto-Rooter’s corporate office several times today as well. We have not heard back from them yet, but we will continue to contact them, and make every effort to get some help for Constance.
