Troy Police showed their findings from a coyote study Monday night to city council, addressing concerns from residents. They believe 30-40 coyotes are living in Troy.
They are telling residents not to feed, approach, or touch these animals. There have been sightings near Big Beaver Road and I-75, Livernois and Wattles, and South Boulevard and Beech.
Police are telling residents they can call them for advice, but they will direct anyone to a licensed nuisance company. They say that could cost anywhere from $300-$750.
The companies Troy is recommending are:
- Critters Be Gone: Mark Evans, 248-722-2058
- Goreman’s Wildlife Removal: Benjamin Foreman, 248-894-1944
- Animal Control Specialist: Trent Masterson, 248-431-8712
- ACT Live Trapping: Jeff Stonerock, 248-475-4550
Additional licensed nuisance companies can be found at www.michigan.gov/wildlife.
However, police say if a coyote presents an immediate danger, you should call the police department by calling 911.
They also want residents to know these animals most likely only attack small pets that roam free, but they say those type of encounters rarely happen.
