Two off-duty Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were arrested on Thursday for allegedly getting into a drunk-driving accident.
According to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, the driver of the car rear-ended a 70-year-old woman on University Dr. in Pontiac around 11 a.m.
Deputies responded to the accident and arrested both men because "it was apparent that both off-duty deputies had been drinking."
The woman was taken to the hospital, treated for injuries and released.
“This is completely unacceptable on more levels than I can list," Bouchard said in a release. “Law enforcement is held to a higher standard. They have violated the public’s trust and will be held accountable for their inexcusable actions.”
According to the sheriff, the driver was arrested for Operating while Impaired and Possession of a Firearm while Intoxicated and the passenger was arrested for Possession of a firearm while Intoxicated.
Blood was taken from both deputies and sent to be tested, and both were taken to the Oakland County Jail and held overnight before being released.
Both deputies have been suspended and have less than two years on the job, according to Bouchard. The Sheriff's Office has also begun terminating both of them.
