An Uber driver accused of stabbing his passenger is expected in court today for a probable cause hearing.
Police say Jacob Allemon, of Berkley, stabbed his 49-year-old passenger five times in December 2016.
The victim said he and his wife requested an Uber ride home from a holiday party.
The passenger claimed he tapped on Allemon's window to let him know they were getting into his car. The passenger believes Allemon felt disrespected by the window tap.
Allemon then drove the couple about a mile and stopped at a shopping plaza at Maple Road and Cranbrook in Bloomfield Township, the victim told police.
The victim says Allemon then ordered the couple out of the vehicle. The victim's wife asked if they could stay in the car to wait for another Uber ride, but there was a fight and police say Allemon stabbed the victim.
Allemon told police it was self-defense.
The man who was stabbed was treated at the hospital and released the next day.
Allemon was charged with Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less than Murder.
His probable cause hearing is expected to begin at 9 a.m. in 48th District Court.
