Business owners in Port Huron say a parking lot project is affecting business and they aren’t the only ones who feel that way.
Businesses say the construction is messing with their money. But, the city tells us the parking lot needed work, and this is the best time to do it.
Alex France, Manager at the Huron Athletic Club says he’s been losing business the last few weeks – blaming it on construction at this nearby parking lot on Quay in Port Huron.
Several other business owners, and people who live, work and dine in the area feel the same way, saying if the construction was done in the fall it would have impacted everyone less.
But the city says it was more cost efficient to do it now and there’s still available parking in the area until the project is done.
The city says the parking lot needed to be upgraded.
We’re told the storm sewer will be installed, electrical lines will be put in the ground, new light poles will be installed, curbs and islands will be built and landscaping will be put it.
The city tells us the construction in the parking lot should be done before Boat Week – which is next month.
Business owners have their fingers crossed.
