It was the last room on the list for housekeeper Brigid Murray to clean at the Ann Arbor Regent Hotel & Suites, and Murray was stunned to see what an older couple that checked out hours earlier had left behind in a bottom drawer.
It was a purse full of cash.
Murray took the purse to her boss and the hotel's general manager.
It was $11,000 in cash that two senior citizens, who had just moved out of their Ypsilanti home of over 40 years, were using a large part of to move out of state to be closer to relatives.
Mark Springfield says his mother cried tears of joy and relief when she heard the hotel staff had found the money and it was safe.
Springfield says his mom didn't realize she had even left her purse behind until they arrived at their destination.
The money was delivered to the couple in time for them to pay the movers when they arrived with all of their belongings the following day.
"I'm just glad I was able to turn it in," Murray told 7 Action News. "It was the right thing to do."
