Ann Arbor passes ordinance preventing police from asking immigration status

Posted

Ann Arbor city leaders have passed a crucial ordinance that keeps its police force from enforcing President Trump's immigration policies.

Inside a packed room at Ann Arbor city hall, citizens spoke out in support of the new ordinance that prevents the city's police force from asking people about their immigration status.

People we talked to say it’s about clearing up confusion and making citizens feel safer when calling cops.

While some wanted this addressed sooner, we're told it was a matter of coming together in a way that served the best interests of citizens.

That new ordinance is already in effect, leaving all immigration matters in the hands of the feds.
