Ann Arbor police continue to search for suspects after a man was shot during a home invasion and robbery.

It happened around 9:30 on Thursday night at a home in the 1400 block of Jorn Court.

According to investigators, three to four suspects broke into the home and one of them shot a resident.

"They ended up in a scuffle, a gun was discharged and we believe it belongs to one of the suspects, the victim was struck and taken to the hospital,” said Sgt. Earle Fox with the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Fox said the victim, a 46 year-old man, lived at the home with his father.  The bullet hit the victim in the leg, and the man is expected to recover.

At this point in the investigation, police are not sure why the home was targeted.

"The exact relationship between the victim and the suspects at this point in time is unknown, there may be some past prior contacts between the two but we are still looking at that,” said Fox.

Neighbors tell 7 Action News they are shocked something like this could happen in this area.

"I was really surprised, my neighbor texted me late last night and I didn't see the text until this morning, she sent me a text to a newspaper article about this break-in and shooting and I'm like 'A shooting!?” said neighbor, Mike Nowak.

Nowak said residents in this neighborhood walk outside often.

"It's the kind of neighborhood where you can walk over to the park and leave your door unlocked, because no one is going to break in,” said Nowak.

Now, Ann Arbor police want residents to be on alert.

"I think it's wise for people to have their doors locked, and report suspicious behavior, and call 9-1-1 and call the police department,” said Fox.
