A funeral is planned Tuesday, and a memorial service Monday, for a 3-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed by another child.

Family members are remembering Jamari Moore. The child and his mother were visiting a friend’s place at the Country Meadow Apartments in Ypsilanti Township on Sunday.

A 10-year-old boy inside somehow found his parents gun on a high closet shelf, unlocked. He started playing with it, and shot Jamari in the neck.

“Everyone involved is devastated,” his great aunt Lena Johnston told 7 Action News. “This is something no family should have to go through.”

The family is calling on parents to better protect weapons in the home so something like this doesn’t happen to another child.
