HAZMAT crews are on scene investigating a chemical spill that prompted a building evacuation in Dexter.
We're told 30 gallons of dimethyl carbonate was spilled into a truck and truck bay area. The chemicals are flammable which prompted the evacuation.
According to the open chemistry database, dimethy carbonate is a clear, colorless liquid that is denser than water and slightly soluble in water. The vapors are heavier than air and it's "used to make other chemicals and as a special purpose solvent."
