Scio Township woman slashed during robbery

Posted

A 69-year-old woman is recovering after a man stole her purse Sunday night and slashed her arm before taking off.

Suzanne Mioduszewski said she had just returned to her home in the Walnut Glen condominiums off Scio Ridge Road in Scio Township around 9:15 p.m.

When she parked her car and got out, Mioduszewski said she was approached by a man she didn't recognize. She said he spoke to her in a threatening way.

“It just sounded like gibberish. There was not one word I could understand," she said.

“He kind of gestured toward me, I thought 'Oh dear,' and I said, 'Money?' And then he started grabbing for my purse," she added.

Mioduszewski said her instincts kicked in and she swung a wine bottle at the man to fight back, but that just angered him.

“He pushed me down on the ground and he just yanked really hard," she described.

The man took off with Mioduszewski's purse. Only then did Mioduszewski notice the robber had slashed her wrist during the struggle and she was bleeding profusely.

Police don't know what kind of weapon he used to make the deep cut.

Mioduszewski was rushed to the hospital, treated and released, but she said her nerves are still rattled. She's the head of the homeowners’ association, and she said what happened to her is an eye-opening reminder crimes of opportunity can strike anywhere, and that people have to look out for themselves and one another.

The suspect is described as a 25-year-old black man with light skin. He was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
