A 16-year-old boy involved in a fatal crash Sunday has been charged with manslaughter, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
The crash happened at about 1:30 a.m. Sept. 25 on Whitehill Street, north of Casino Avenue on Detroit's east side.
The prosecutor's office said the boy was driving with two female passengers when he lost control and crashed into a tree. He was driving without a license.
The front seat passenger, Eliza Fletcher, 15, died at the scene, and the back seat passenger, a 16-year-old female, survived the crash and was taken to a local hospital.
Fletcher also goes by the name Jadeliza Wright McClain, the prosecutor's office said. Her brother made headlines this week after an Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper helped him get home for Fletcher's funeral.
The 16-year-old boy was also taken to the hospital with injuries, but has since been discharged.
He is being lodged at the Juvenile Detention Facility on a $25,000 bond.
