A 17-year-old from Southgate died on Thursday after being involved in a crash with a tow truck on Monday.

Family members say Adam Cross was in the back seat of a car with friends, on his way to see Christmas lights, when the accident happened. The car was on Dix-Toledo, near Goddard, when family members say another car stopped suddenly.

"His best friend slammed on the brakes, and the car stalled out and then the tow truck hit him in the rear,” said Amanda Calvillo, Adam’s sister.

Adam was rushed to Beaumont in Dearborn, but he didn’t make it.

His family is devastated by the loss, but they are finding some comfort in Adam’s final decision: to be an organ donor.

"We are so happy that he was able to hold, scientifically hold on long enough to donate all of his organs, he will save so many people's lives,” said Cavillo.

His family hope Adam’s final act will inspire others to think about the gift of organ donation.

"He always said he would definitely want to help people and save lives if, for some reason, his ended,” said Cavillo.

His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for Adam’s funeral expenses.

Also, there will be a vigil in Adam’s honor on Friday in Wyandotte at the Wyandotte Skate Park.  It starts at 4:30 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are still pending, but will be set up through Weise Funeral Home in Allen Park.
