A grieving family is now one step closer to seeing justice served for a murder at Eastland Mall back in 2015.
Today the 3rd of 4 suspects, 18-year-old Demetrius Armour was sentenced to serve between 40 and 60 years in prison.
Cassandra Rogers spoke before the judge on behalf of her adopted son, Tyrell Lane, whose voice was silenced, his life stolen, when he was just 17-years-old.
Rogers was full of emotion as Armour stared expressionless.
“Right now, I'm in the pit of Hell. I had to relive this every single time he came to court,” said Rogers.
She, along with many other members of Tyrell Lane’s family, have been to court a lot in the last year.
They've seen 2 accomplices convicted and locked up, one serving life in prison, the other serving up to 30 years.
They'll keep coming to court until everyone responsible for the teenager’s murder is brought to justice.
The violent crime was committed the day after Christmas 2015 outside the Burlington Coat Factory at Eastland Mall in Harper Woods.
Lane was hanging out with friends when he was gunned down. Armour allegedly drove the getaway car.
He was found guilty of one count of first-degree murder. He maintained his innocence at his sentencing hearing today, saying he couldn’t have done anything differently to change what happened.
Rogers made a final plea to the judge.
“I'm asking this court to give him leniency. The same leniency he gave my son when he shot my son 5 times in the back,” she said emotionally.
The judge sentenced Armour to up to 60 years in prison.
The fourth and final alleged accomplice, Tyler Tate, goes to trial before a jury in March.
