Joe Gentz is changing his story, and it's all documented in a signed sworn affidavit filed last week in Wayne County Circuit Court.

Gentz told an inmate about what he's now claiming really happened during the murder of Jane Bashara more than four years ago.

Gentz now says he acted alone, breaking into the Grosse Pointe Park house of Bob and Jane Bashara because he was mad he was not getting paid. The handyman also claimed Jane was in the house, and he lost control.

His original story involved Gentz being hired to kill Bashara's wife, claiming Bob held a gun to his head.

The mother of Joe Gentz does not understand why her son is now changing his story, saying he's always told the family his first version of events.

When asked if she thinks Joe acted alone, she firmly said, " No, No, No."

She's still in disbelief about the murder, saying her son was not raised that way. Joann Gentz told 7 Action News there's no way Bashara had nothing to do with the crime.

Gentz also claims he was coached to lie by police. Bashara is fighting for a new trial, and his attorney is back in court on Friday.
