Dearborn city councilman Michael Sareini tells 7 Action News he was attacked, along with his mother, after a funeral Monday night.

He claims he was at a mosque, when two disgruntled men shoved him inside.

Sareini says that encounter then moved outside, where he claims the men threw a bottle through a car window.

Sareini wrote a letter describing his whole situation, and posted it on social media.

The councilman claims the car door was also slammed on his mother.

When he got out of the car, he went on to tell 7 Action News he was sucker punched in the face.

He wrote in his letter, he believes this was over business dealings, stating as city councilman, saying he won't bend the rules for anything or anyone.

Dearborn Police are now investigating, confirming to us they have interviewed all parties, and more information should come out on Wednesday.

Police also confirm they are investigating an allegation that the councilman had a weapon on him.

Sareini absolutely denied that allegation, claiming his attackers are making up this scenario.

He denied our request to go on camera, only speaking to us on the phone.
