The city of Dearborn is warning drivers not to speed or race on their roads.

The police department has stepped up their patrols in busy areas like Ford Road and Telegraph. In one day they ticketed 90 people for careless driving.

On Thursday two drivers were arrested for drag racing on Ford Road.

Commander David Robison with the department says violators tend to be younger drivers who are not obeying the rules of the road.

"The penalties can be so tough. Maybe people will think twice before they throw caution to the wind and the way that they make cars nowadays and not thinking clearly, they can really take their lives and the lives of all of our other drivers and all of the citizens in their hands when they go to such extremes as drag racing,” he says.

Robinson says if you see a careless driver or someone drag racing, slow down and pull over before calling police. It’s always helpful if you can describe the vehicle or report a license plate number.

Last year 40,000 tickets were issued.
