An Inkster family is leaning on the public to help them solve the mystery of who shot Army Reserve veteran Louis Perry and why.

On Tuesday, his family and friends celebrated what would have been his 50th birthday.

Perry was found shot to death on a driveway at a house on Avondale in Inkster.

His mother Tearetha Perry had a message for the gunman, saying, "Just turn yourself in. Like my father said, you might get by, but you won't get away."

Investigators say he was inside the house at one time, and have questioned three people at the home. But so far, no one has been arrested.

His family doesn't understand why anyone would kill a man, known for being giving and selfless.

His wife Tracy Perry, with tears rolling down her cheek, says, "Louis was the kindest man to walk the earth. He would never hurt anybody."

Perry's funeral is scheduled for Friday. We are told a few days later, he'll be buried with full military honors in Holly.
