Man working near Romulus railroad tracks hit and killed by train

Police are investigating after a worker was hit by a train and killed in Romulus.

Officers say a westbound Norfolk Southern train hit the man around 7:15 p.m at the Inkster Road crossing.

Police say it appears the 57-year-old man was working either on or near the tracks at the time of the accident. His name is not yet being released.

Investigators believe he did not hear the train approaching.

Norfolk Southern has released the following statement:

Norfolk Souther is investigating the incident to determine the cause and whether anyone had permission to be on the Norfolk Southern right-of-way.
