A Melvindale bus driver who allegedly threw ice at students has been charged with child abuse, according to Wayne County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Maria Miller.
Patrick Brennan, 63, from Lincoln Park, was charged with Fourth Degree Child Abuse and Assault and Battery on Thursday. Both are misdemeanors.
According to police, Brennan was driving Allendale Elementary School students home from school around 4 p.m. Tuesday when a group of kids began yelling and misbehaving. Brennan allegedly became angry at the students misbehaving, got some ice from outside and threw it in the bus at the children.
An 11-year-old girl who was not involved was hit in the head by the ice causing her to bleed.
Police officers were dispatched t her home around 4:15 p.m. and saw a cut above her left eye and blood on her scarf. She was taken to the hospital and checked out there.
Later that day, Brennan was arrested by police. He is expected to be arraigned in court on Thursday at 2 p.m.
