A metro Detroit CPL instructor is facing charges after accidentally opening fire in a classroom.

It happened at the Firearm Exchange Training Center in Livonia, where the instructor rented a class. Michael Edward Hearn, 44, is charged with one count of the misdemeanor Careless, Rckless, or Negligent Use of a Firearm.

Hearn is from Farmington Hills. He was reportedly teaching a Concealed Pistol License class when he allegedly pulled his firearm out and fired one shot at the classroom door.

The bullet struck a 38-year-old man from Detroit who was in another classroom.

Hearn received a bond of $5,000. His preliminary examination is set for May 25 at 9:00 a.m.

The manager at the Firearm Exchange told 7 Action News, model rubber guns are supposed to be in the classroom... not loaded firearms.
