A former Canton pastor was arraigned on Thursday for larceny.

Father Eugene Katcher, 71, former pastor of Resurrection Parish in Canton, was charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office with three counts of larceny in a building.

The charges are felonies carrying a maximum penalty of up to four years in prison.

These charges come from a preliminary investigation by the Archdiocese in spring 2017, after an allegation was made against Katcher.

It is alleged that during his time as pastor of the Resurrection Church, Katcher stole money and many items of property from the parish.

After reaching senior priest status, Katcher retired, as had been previously scheduled.

After his arrest, he has been restricted from public ministry, where he cannot celebrate Mass, present himself as a priest and is not allowed on the property of the Resurrection Church.
