Several police agencies worked three separate scenes near Cherry Hill Road in Inkster Thursday afternoon.
Investigators say a man was shot while in his car at Pine Haven Apartments around 4:00 pm.
The shooter ran up on the car and fired several shots. The driver tried speeding away down Cherry Hill Road, eventually crashing into a house.
He was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead.
Police were able to track down the shooter using a K-9 unit, also recovering the weapon.
The name and age of the victim had not been released, and police are still trying to figure out a motive.
